Oceanography
Contact details:

Andréa is an ARC Future Fellow at the Climate Change Research Centre, UNSW. She is also a Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes. Andréa completed her BSc in Physics (1999), and her MSc (2001) and PhD (2006) in Physical Oceanography at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

Andréa investigates the mechanisms by which the oceans can affect global climate through numerical models. She is interested in climate variability, air-sea interaction, teleconnection patterns in the Southern Hemisphere, and tropical basin interaction. Her work looks at the impact of sea surface temperature variability on regional circulation, precipitation, and drought over Australia, South America and other regions. She is particularly interested in the mechanisms of the different types of the El Niño Southern Oscillation, and how these influence atmospheric circulation and interact with other oceanic basins.
