Former PhD student
Field of Research:
Paleoclimatology
Contact details:

Willem is interested in carbon cycle modelling and paleoclimate. The westerly winds in the Southern Hemisphere have been proposed to be an important control over atmospheric CO2 and climate over the last 1000 years. He will investigate this via a combination of sensitivity studies using the UVic Earth System Model and analysing paleo-data in an attempt to understand how the westerlies have changed over the last 1000 years and what effect these changes may have had on the climate.
