Dr Vishal Dixit
Post-doctoral Research Associate
Field of Research:
Atmospheric Sciences
Contact details:

Vishal is working with Prof. Steven Sherwood as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Climate Change Research Centre, UNSW. He is a mechanical engineer by training. He finished his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 2007 from Mumbai University and his Masters in 2010 from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India. During his masters, he got interested in the Physics of Atmosphere and pursued it to complete his PhD in Atmospheric Sciences with Prof. J Srinivasan in October, 2015 from IISc.

Vishal is interested in investigating the role of atmospheric convection and clouds in climate dynamics. During his PhD, he investigated the role of various thermodynamic and dynamic processes in deciding the mean location, the vertical structure and the energy exports associated with the Inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ). Now, he is examining how the moist processes work at the global and climatic scales. He is particularly interested in understanding the role of atmospheric convection in climate enigmas, such as, Tropical widening and poleward expansion, Anomalous hydrological changes and African Monsoons
